Hala Tree Sarong, Bright Colors

Known as Hala in Hawai’i and as pandanus around the world, this unusual looking tree, with its aerial roots and long, spiny leaves, is an important part of Hawaiian culture. The leaves, known as lauhala, are woven into many items, including sleeping mats. The fruit, sometimes called “haole pineapple” for its similar looks, is made into a fragrant and beautiful lei.
